This is a character journal for my np_hogwarts character, Adrian Devlin. Adrian is played by me, Lacey, aka orangewinters. Layout was done by the wonderful raven_anabelle.

An unbalanced boy that Adrian Shelby Palamades Devlin
Adrian is, in a nutshell, a serial killer spoiled little bigot. He has an obsessive personality and tends to fixate on things that intrigue him, pining until he can finally have them, after which point he’s liable to find a flaw and toss the object (or person) away as though they were nothing. He keeps to himself by and large because he hates people, although he also likes to watch them and gather information he can exploit later. Adrian is close to very few people. In fact, the number is probably three and includes his mother mommy complex, his older sister Karina, and his closest and beloved cousin Apollo.

Also, he might actually suffer from Antisocial Personality Disorder. (His initials are now an abbreviation for it, so it must be true.)

Adrian knows what he wants and he goes for it, laying painstaking plans and ensuring that everything falls out just so. He’s always sure of himself and can justify/rationalize anything. Magically he’s not terribly strong. Adrian is capable, to be certain, and can explain any subject he’s read on but his best subjects- excepting Charms- are those that are thought based more than practical. He does extremely well in Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, and Astronomy. He likes and does well in History of Magic as well. Charms is his only truly magic-based strength- no self respecting wizard could fail it, in his opinion- and if there’s ever something that throws him about the class, he studies until he gets it right.

He uses people and tends to enjoy intentionally pushing buttons to see how far he can go. This has gotten him into trouble a time or two but he fails to see why that should dissuade him from continuing on. He can be pompous, rude, inconsiderate, and downright hateful. Adrian’s practical, and most forefront weaknesses, are his rather violent allergy to pumpkin products and his undying love for his mother, who is quite thoroughly insane and hardly a good role model. Magically, Adrian is very weak in anything requiring hands on work. Wands he gets, but Herbology and Potions trip him up because of the primary emphasis in manual labor.

Blame his home life
Adrian is the second of five children born to Nicholas and Morgana Devlin. His parents do not love each other, and it’s questionable as to whether they ever did. They married very soon after Morgana graduated from Hogwarts, as per an arrangement made between their parents (though both bride and groom consented and were pleased with the match at the time). Although they no longer care for each other’s company- in any capacity- Adrian’s parents see it as only proper that they continue to put on the show of having a functional marriage. They work around each other and avoid contact when at all possible. The fault lines in their relationship are brought out quite clearly in the Devlin children, with Adrian and his older sister favoring their mother and the younger three children belonging by and large to their father. Adrian dislikes his younger siblings and is not close to them at all. He finds them to be boring and “Daddy’s pets”. It disgusts him.

Within the last year, the animosity between Adrian’s parents has taken on new dimensions. While on a mission of sorts- as the only level they get along on is their mutual status as Death Eaters- Nicholas saw fit to “leave Morgana behind” and let her take the fall for what they were up to. Luckily for her, she was sent to a locked ward for the criminally insane in St. Mungo’s instead of Azkaban and wasn’t actually connected to the Dark Lord. Adrian was furious that she was taken away and saw all too clearly that it was an orchestrated plot to get Morgana off of his father’s hands so he could pursue the children’s squib governess. (Elaine was good enough to sleep with but never to marry, not worth a divorce, but easier to flaunt and use with the wife out of the way.)

In November, his mother’s case was “reviewed” by Minister Locke and Morgana was released. She quickly returned home and set the house right (by killing the governess, obviously) and as far as Adrian is concerned, all is right with the world again.

As far as his childhood and upbringing go, Adrian lived a pleasantly sheltered life before Hogwarts, socializing primarily with his cousins and close relatives. They are a very old pureblood line, if not the most respectable one, having numerous and long standing connections to the dark arts even prior to the rise of the Dark Lord. Adrian was raised to believe that blood is of the utmost importance and his family adheres to such standards rather rigidly.

The Devlins live in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, England.
